Man Says Liking Pineapple on Pizza Has ‘Quietly Affected His Social Life'
6/30/2025
A man from Sheffield has said his preference for pineapple on pizza has led to what he describes as "a gradual but noticeable change in how people treat me."
David Langley, 38, first mentioned his topping choice in passing during a group lunch at work. "Someone asked what everyone wants from Domino's. I said Hawaiian. There was a pause. Then someone asked if I was joking. I wasn't."
Since then, Langley says he's been "left out of things slightly more often." He's still in the group chat, but certain messages now go ignored - including one offering a spare ticket to The National in Leeds. "A few people from work ended up going - I saw it on someone's Instagram story later that night. Then I watched one of them post a clip from the gig. Everyone's singing the chorus and I realised I would've been the only one not there. I don't know - it made me feel like I'd been quietly voted out."
A few weeks later, he was invited on a canoeing trip, but only after someone else dropped out. "They said they needed to keep the numbers even. Framed it like a joke, but you can tell."
He says people can be surprisingly judgemental about certaun lifestyle choices. "They just assume it makes you a bad person. I wish they'd actually talk to me - we'd probably find we have more in common than they think."
Though not embarrassed by his choice, Langley says he's become more cautious. "If I'm ordering with other people, I usually just get a margherita. It avoids a whole thing."
At the time of publication, Langley confirmed he still eats Hawaiian pizza at home, "but with the curtains closed, just to be safe."
